Giancarlo Stanton Sends Baseball Into Orbit, Out of Dodger Stadium

Giancarlo Stanton became the fourth man in baseball history to hit a home run clear out of Dodger Stadium. It was pretty damn cool.

Giancarlo Stanton hit a baseball out of Dodger Stadium last night. Stanton has hit some mammoth shots in his short time in the majors, some maybe even farther than the one you see right up there, but who cares about distance when you have the the visual of watching a baseball get hammered out of an enormous structure the sole purpose of which is to contain baseballs. If you are unaccustomed to seeing this and it's throwing you off, the ball exits right over the first angle in the roofing over the left field bleachers.

Before the first inning last night, only three players had ever hit a baseball out of Dodger Stadium: Willie Stargell (who did it twice), Mark McGwire, and Mike Piazza. Once he made contact everyone in the building knew it was over—Dodgers starter Mike Bolsinger took one quick look just to confirm his suspicions and then went about kicking some dirt—it was just a matter of where it would land. As it turns out, it landed on the sidewalk outside and traveled 475 feet, according to MLB's Statcast.

It's almost fitting that this was Miami's only run in a blowout 11-1 loss to the Dodgers—that's just too much power all at once.
