From live shows to group hikes, most cities have tons of free activities you can enjoy on your own or with a friend. The trick to finding these freebies is knowing where to look.

When you live in a big city, it may seem like everything is expensive AF—whether it’s a cocktail or a movie. But locals always know where to get a good deal without resorting to Groupon. To help you find free things to do every day of the week we scoured the best sites in the 25 largest cities in the country and picked our favorites.

It’s always good to follow a few freebie sites on social media so you don’t miss out on upcoming events and can show out-of-town friends a good time without breaking the bank. While some of the sites below list activities that are always free, others have a combination of paid and free events, and the best ones update their calendar every day with new things to do.
